To get more technical about it, It is all about the mobility of your fascia which is something not talked about a lot in fitness. Fascia is a fibrous layer of connective tissue that surrounds all the muscles in our body. Without proper mobility, fibers of the fascia cross and bind to muscles and nerves, inhibiting normal range of motion and many times will cause pain. This could happen from a specific injury or just habitual behavior like, tense shoulders from a commute to work, being hunched over a computer all day, holding a baby on one hip, or rounding the shoulders forward to breastfeed.
Postural patterns as well as everyday stress will cause the fascia to thicken and harden. Foam rolling will release this hardened and thickened fascia leaving you instant relief and flexibility.
