Kundalini Yoga With Live Music

Monday, October 24th, 7:30-9pm
Like the ocean waves that never cease, the rhythm of the universe never ceases. All of the Universe is a vibration of energy. We are either vibrating in harmony or disharmony with the Universe. We vibrate frequency through our thoughts, words, actions, emotions, and feelings. What we put out to the Universe we receive back, much like a boom-a-rang. Through a deeper understanding and sincere practice of Kundalini Yoga we can ride the waves of life with joy, grace, compassion and kindness.
Kundalini Yoga is one of the oldest and considered the most comprehensive of yoga traditions, combining meditation, mantra, physical exercises and breathing techniques. Kundalini Yoga is the practice of awakening the Higher Self and turning potential energy into useful energy. Kundalini Yoga is a fascinating practice.
About Sukhmani (aka Nicole), E-RYT, YACEP: She has practiced yoga almost 20 years and has been teaching for almost a decade. Sukhmani teaches yoga classes all over Southern California as well as Kundalini Yoga, Meditation, Sound Healing and Live Music Mantra workshops all over the US and online. Sukhmani is the co-founder of the award winning mantra rock band, Sukha and often incorporates live music and sound healing in her classes. They released their critically acclaimed mantra album “Rise” earlier this year and are touring to support it. She studies Kundalini Yoga and Meditation at the advanced levels with master teachers Guru Singh, Tej, Nirvair Singh and others.

Monday Night Mind-Body Revolution

At hip studio, we are all about health! We are committed to living the hip life and to being our best selves! It is our purpose to provide the support and accountability you need to be your best self! We know that our mental, emotional and spiritual health is just as important as our physical health. We believe in holistic and integrative living and in growing our community of passionately healthy hipsters!
Monday, May 2nd (and the first Monday of every month) from 7:30-9pm we will gather at hip studio to share our stories and collectively raise the awareness of holistic health, nutrition, mindful eating, meditation, motivation, movement, connection, creativity, purpose and balance. We will quiet our minds, connect with ourselves and others, and get a little inspiration to take back into our busy lives. We will provide one another with support, community and accountability to achieve optimum health.
This month we are thrilled to collaborate with Amber Caudle, the owner of our most favorite healthy local spot, The Source Cafe.

Born in Ohio and raised in Atlanta, Amber’s passion for the restaurant business was ignited when she was fifteen and had her first restaurant job. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management. Although she had management opportunities in Atlanta after graduating, her true passion took over and she began her culinary training in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was there that she learned and fell in love with the simplicity and passion of Southern Italian cuisine, which led her to Sorrento, Italy to cook and study. Her appreciation for food, travel and wine led her to San Sebastian, Spain, where she was enchanted once again, this time by Basque food and culture. Amber is also a first level sommelier.

Chef Amber believes food can be healthy and delicious at the same time. Amber opened The Source Café 3 ½ years ago because she was on a journey towards better physical health and spiritual growth. This became the driving force in her life. At the time she was the Executive Chef at a traditional, yet somewhat unconventional, Mediterranean restaurant. In dealing with some personal health issues, she developed an anti-inflammatory, immune -boosting tonic and began sharing it with coworkers. She couldn’t make enough to keep up with the demand! That experience ignited the fire even though she knew for quite a long time that food was instrumental in healing and maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit. The vision and mission of The Source sprang from that realization along with the commitment to share with others.

Chef Amber is currently working on a cookbook that will showcase her unique recipes and dishes that are healthy, tasty and imaginative. Equally important to Amber in writing the cookbook is the story behind and within the pages. She has read other people’s stories that have inspired her-given her the encouragement to grow-to take new, bold steps. Everyone has a story to tell. Chef Amber believes in a deeper sense that there is a universal realization that sharing your story with others begins a dialogue that brings all of us together in a caring, supportive community.

This is a donation based event. Each month we will donate to a charity of our choice.

Are you waiting to live your PURPOSE?

91527da1731eccfc04c280b2c1a956ecYou don’t have to wait another minute to live your PURPOSE! It struck me while reading about Oprah’s recent partnership with Weight Watchers, that although she continues to struggle with her weight after all these years, it has not deterred her from living her purpose of educating, enlightening and inspiring millions of people for the last 30 years. She’s not waiting to master her own challenges before attempting to empower others to face their challenges head on. Most of us aren’t destined to follow in Oprah’s footsteps, but we are destined to share our our unique greatness with the world, big or small. I have often found myself putting things off until I figure it out … get it right … stop struggling.  For some reason, I think I need to have it all figured out before I step into my purpose. I think I need to be struggle-free before I start helping others conquer their own struggles … and I realize that I’ve got it all backwards. It is by acknowledging, facing, accepting, and growing through my imperfections and understanding my own “human condition” that I will most fully live my purpose in helping others! Stop putting off living your true purpose. We all have our very own special and unique gifts. What are yours? What makes you feel that surge of bliss and fulfillment? What do you know in your heart you were born to do? NOW is the right time! Don’t compare, don’t judge, just start living it.

Change Your Mind … Change Your Life!

Change Your Mind Change Your LifeChange your mind … change your life!  You may have heard the saying, “What you focus on grows”. When we focus on what’s NOT going well in our lives, we feel weighed down, negative, uninspired, overwhelmed, stressed out and exhausted! It is human nature … our minds inevitably shift to the negative and we wonder why we feel stuck and why our lives lack passion.  We wonder why we are so unlucky and why life feels so challenging! Are we are alone or is life just hard?! The more we focus on these negative thoughts, the more we experience these negative feelings. Our mind is a powerful tool, and by simply changing our thoughts, we can change our lives.  Try taking 5 minutes each day to shift your thoughts and focus on what IS going well! We can change our entire mood and give ourselves an immediate burst of energy and inspiration.  It sounds simple … and it is!  For the next week, take 5 minutes each day to write down 5 things that are going well in your life! They can be simple and small. Think about this past week and take note of a few things you feel proud of! You’ve been consistent in your workouts this last week … You finally got around to cleaning out your closet … You made a new dish that your family loved … You finished reading a book … You got a promotion … ANYTHING GOOD!  Shift your awareness and see how what you focus on expands and grows!

Stop Struggling and Start Losing Weight!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce our upcoming workshop series with holistic nutritionist and coach, Shana Ekedal.

Shana is dedicated to embodying her highest potential: body, mind & spirit and has built the foundation of her business based on her own personal journey and the life challenges she overcame.  Her work is focused on shining a light for others so they can discover the path to their highest potential through nutrition, health, self-empowerment and self-love.

This series of 4 workshops will coincide with our upcoming hip60 Challenge, and is guaranteed to inspire you to be your Best Self! You will be given the tools and support you need to ensure success!

Now is the perfect time to get back on track after summer and start implementing the healthy habits you’ll need to feel your best this holiday season.

Tuesday, October 6th, 6:30-8pm: “Stop Struggling and Start Losing Weight”

Tuesday, October 20th, 6:30-8pm: “Shake the Sugar Habit”

Tuesday, November 3rd, 6:30-8pm: “Party and Socialize Without Expanding Your Waistline”

Tuesday, November 17th, 6:30-8pm: “Get the Body You Want”

Shana’s method covers creating conditions that support optimal health, honoring the body, expanding the mind, freeing the spirit, expanding self love and triumphing over the past.  Through her work, she has developed a great compassion and drive to help others move towards mind, body, spirit integration and to teach that losing weight, boosting energy, restoring youth, and living an empowered and purpose driven life is available to those willing to dig deep, do the work and receive the gifts.

When Shana applied all that she had learned from her life experiences, her relationship with food shifted for the positive.  She discovered more energy and found a deeper sense of purpose to her life.  By learning how to turn down the negative voice in her head, she began to listen to the deeper whisper of her spirit.  That whisper guided her to a path that lead her to greater happiness, health, joy, gratitude, and freedom to be the ever changing, always growing person she was meant to be.

We couldn’t be more excited to share this series with you, and to invite Shana into our HIP Family!  We will continue to strive to make your HIP experience the very best it can be, and to give you the support and tools necessary to be your Best Self!

HIP Client of the Month – Mary C!

IMG_3061We are absolutely thrilled to announce our hip client of the month – Mary C!

If you have been in class with Mary, you know she is the jumpboard queen and class comedienne.  She takes her Pilates practice seriously, but her witty sense of humor is guaranteed to make any hipster in her presence chuckle 🙂

To date she has attended 1,061 classes, has perfected the long spine stretch, and has happily let go of 35 pounds!

We first met Mary in January 2012 and she has honestly continued to amaze us with her fierce dedication and consistent commitment, to not only improve, but to thrive.  She walks into each class with a spirit of generosity and an energy that inspires her instructors and fellow hipsters.  She is the first to get into an exercise, and welcomes any challenge for the advanced option of an exercise.  When she first started, the long spine stretch exercise on the reformer was “a bit of a stretch”, but as you can see from the picture, she has absolutely perfected it from head to toe.  We are so proud!

When Mary walked through our doors, she made a commitment to make health a priority and she hasn’t looked back.  She somehow finds the time to balance attending 5-6 hip classes a week, being a wife to her husband of almost 17 years, carting her twin 9 year old girls to all their figure skating practices and events, and taking her beloved German Shepherds for their daily walks.

We recently asked Mary a few questions.  We hope you enjoy her answers as much as we did!

What advice would the Mary today give the Mary 3 1/2 years ago?

If I could talk to the person I was post HIP class #1, I would tell myself . . . the workouts are challenging, but continue to push yourself–you won’t believe where you will be 3 1/2 years/1000+ classes later. Your body will be stronger than ever, your mind clearer, and you will accomplish things you didn’t think possible/do exercises that you didn’t think were humanly possible (i.e. long spine).

Why did you start doing Pilates?

I wanted to become stronger and healthier. Spoiler alert: it worked. 🙂

What keeps you motivated to workout?

I love they way I feel! My head is clearer, my body is stronger. Seeing my body change and being able to do things that I couldn’t do when I started is a huge motivator. Plus, I love the trainers and fellow hipsters. It is a great community—super supportive!

What is your weekly workout schedule?

I am at HIP 5-6 days a week—I am a jumpboard and Pilates girl. Jumpboard has done amazing things for my legs in particular. It is great head clearer and mood elevator. Everyone needs to try it! I follow my workouts by walking my German Shepherds.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen since you started at hip?

I’m a different person, I am stronger and happier. I have lost 35 lbs (and still have some work to do on my body composition). I recognize possibilities that I missed before. I want to model (especially to my daughters) what it means to be strong and joyful.

Well Mary, you ARE strong and joyful, and not only are you an example to your daughters, you are an inspiration to all of us to continue to strive to be our Best Selves! Thank you for being a part of our hip family!
